program overview
How WRV Programs Work
WRV programs are designed to make it easy for volunteers to contribute meaningful, hands-on restoration work across Colorado. Each program focuses on a specific land or community need — from trail maintenance and habitat restoration to river cleanups and youth engagement.
Volunteer opportunities are posted in our VolunteerHub calendar, where you can browse upcoming projects, view details, and sign up based on your interests, location, and availability.
Natural Habitats
Benefit wildlife from plains to alpine. Our cherished natural lands need our help! Whether it’s restoring sensitive alpine areas, rehabilitating parklands, or creating wet meadows in arid landscapes across Colorado, WRV is healing the land while building a community dedicated to the care of our natural resources.
Plants & Pollinators
Help our native biodiversity thrive! Promote the health of local plant and pollinator species by collecting Native Seeds, removing Invasive Weeds, and planting for Pollinators. You can have fun learning how to identify various plants and understand their role in our landscapes, while helping to create a healthier environment for pollinators.
Vital Rivers
Promote stream habitats & flood resilience. Rivers are the lifeblood of our natural areas and communities, but they get a lot of abuse. Join us as we stabilize banks damaged by floods and wildfires, plant native trees & shrubs, build in-stream structures, create beaver dam analogs, and host clean-up days to restore miles of Colorado’s streams and rivers.
Healthy Forests
Revive woodlands & reduce wildfire risks. A century of fire suppression has left many of Colorado’s forests unnaturally dense and prone to catastrophic wildfires. Help ensure the current and future health of our region’s forests by thinning overgrown areas and promoting the recovery of areas affected by wildfires.
Sustainable Trails
Give back to the lands we all love. Well-maintained trails connect us with nature while minimizing disturbances to the land. Join WRV as we bring our restoration focus and expertise to popular trails from city open spaces to Colorado’s highest peaks, for the benefit of nature and recreationists alike!
Youth & Families
Learning and having fun, together. Youth experiences in nature alongside a trusted adult are the number one predictor of a future environmental ethic. The WRV projects below offer a great way for your family to play in, learn about, and care for our state’s natural places. The WRV events are all Family-Friendly, with minimum ages of 10 or less. Children are welcome to attend along with a parent or guardian and actively participate in restoration efforts.
WRV Basecamp
Help out in Longmont & Fort Collins. Keep our field projects running smoothly by lending a hand with tools, cooking, gardening, office tasks, seed cleaning and more. We have weekday and weekend opportunities at our two “basecamp” facilities in Longmont and Fort Collins. You might just save the day!
Leaders & Training
Develop your skills & make a difference. Trained volunteer leaders make everything we do at WRV possible. We offer leadership and technical training, as well as mentoring by experienced leaders. No experience necessary – the desire to be a leader is the only requirement! View upcoming Leader Sign-Ups & Openings.
