program overview
A century of fire suppression has left many of Colorado’s forests unnaturally dense and prone to catastrophic wildfires. Help ensure the current and future health of our region’s forests by thinning overgrown areas and promoting the recovery of areas affected by wildfires.
Volunteer opportunities are posted on our calendar, where you can browse upcoming projects, view details, and sign up based on your interests, location, and availability.
All volunteers can participate in activities such as delimbing trees with hand saws and piling slash for burning. Trained chainsaw operators form the backbone of our forestry work, and we offer S-212 certification courses and a fleet of chainsaws and personal protective equipment for volunteer sawyers to use on projects. Join a WRV chainsaw crew to perform wildfire mitigation along the Front Range or remove invasive Russian olive on the plains.
