Volunteer Experience

Want to see what it’s like to volunteer with WRV? Explore firsthand what happens on our restoration, habitat, trail, and clean-up projects — from check-in to the “wrap-up circle.”

WRV volunteers come together to restore Colorado’s lands, build community, learn new skills, and make a meaningful impact outdoors. Whether you join a single-day project or a weekend wilderness trip, you’ll be supported, trained, and welcomed into a friendly community of people who care for the land.

Hands-On Impact

You’ll work directly on ecological restoration — trail work, planting, erosion control, habitat restoration, wildfire recovery, and more — helping Colorado’s landscapes heal.

Skills & Training

Every project begins with tools and safety training. No experience needed. Volunteers learn field techniques, teamwork, and leadership.

Community & Connection

Projects connect people of all ages and backgrounds. You’ll meet new friends, enjoy shared purpose, and contribute to a welcoming, supportive community.

Time Outdoors

Volunteering is a chance to spend meaningful time outside in Colorado’s forests, foothills, parks, and alpine environments.

Volunteering with WRV is simple, welcoming, and hands-on. Start by browsing open opportunities in our VolunteerHub calendar, where each listing includes location, difficulty, timing, and project details. Once you sign up, just show up — WRV provides all tools, training, materials, and leadership so you can focus on enjoying the experience.

During each project, volunteers receive guidance from trained Crew Leaders and Technical Advisors who help everyone learn new skills and participate at their own pace. Whether you’re joining a single-day event or a multi-day wilderness trip, every hour you contribute helps restore Colorado’s lands and strengthens a community of people who care deeply about the environment.

As you get involved, you may discover volunteer roles that match your interests or leadership goals — from Project Leader and Technical Advisor to Crew Leader, Tool Manager, and Cook Team. Many roles include additional training and mentorship, offering meaningful ways to grow with WRV. To feel prepared for any project, all you need is water, snacks or lunch, weather-appropriate layers, sturdy footwear, sun protection, and a positive attitude. WRV provides everything else you’ll need on site.
